North Carolina Shad Boat Ornament 2004

The General Assembly of 1987 adopted the Shad Boat as the official State Historical Boat. The boat was developed in the 1870s on Roanoke Island by George Washington Creef, and the name is derived from that of the fish it was used to catch, the shad.
